Terms & Conditions Portuguese lessons with Carolina Version 2.0 · Effective from June 2026
These Terms & Conditions set out the agreement between you (the student) and Carolina (your Portuguese teacher). By booking lessons, you agree to the terms below.

Payment is made in advance, at the time of booking, to reserve your slot.
Cancellations with less than 24 hours' notice are charged in full.
No-shows — not attending without notice — are charged in full.

1. Booking & Payment
Lessons must be booked in advance by email or directly with me.
Payment is made in advance, at the time of booking, and reserves your slot. A booking is only confirmed once payment has been received; until then, the time slot remains available to others.
Payment is accepted via the methods stated at the time of booking (for example Wise, Revolut, or PayPal). Any transaction or transfer fees charged by the payment provider are the responsibility of the student, and the full quoted amount must be received.
Currency. All prices are set and payable in US dollars (USD). If you choose to pay in another currency, the conversion is carried out by your own bank or payment provider at their prevailing exchange rate, and any conversion costs or rate differences are your responsibility. It is your responsibility to ensure the full USD amount stated on your invoice is received.
Unless otherwise stated, packages are valid for 6 months from the date of purchase. Lessons not used within this period expire and cannot be refunded or carried over.
2. Cancellations & Rescheduling
If you need to cancel or reschedule a lesson, please give at least 24 hours' notice.
Cancellations made with less than 24 hours' notice are charged in full — meaning that for package students the lesson is deducted from your remaining balance as though it had taken place, and for individual bookings the lesson fee is not returned.
The first lesson of any new booking or package is always charged at the full individual rate. If you cancel after booking and ask for a refund, this first lesson is treated as taken and is not refundable, regardless of notice given. Where the first lesson forms part of a package, it is counted within your completed lessons rather than charged separately (see section 6).
All times refer to my local timezone, which is stated at the time of booking. Notice periods are calculated from the scheduled lesson start time.
If I ever need to cancel or reschedule, you will be offered an alternative time or a full refund for that lesson.
3. Lesson Policies
Standard lessons are 50 minutes, unless otherwise stated in the package terms (for example practice lessons and children's lessons).
Lessons begin and end at the scheduled time. If you are late, the lesson still ends at the original finish time.
If you are more than 10 minutes late to a 30-minute lesson, it is cancelled and charged in full.
If you are more than 12 minutes late to a 45-minute lesson, it is cancelled and charged in full.
If you are more than 15 minutes late to a 50-minute lesson, it is cancelled and charged in full.
If you do not attend without notice, it is treated as a late cancellation and charged in full.
For children's lessons, a parent or guardian must be present at the start and available nearby throughout the session. The adult making the booking confirms they are the child's parent or legal guardian and consents to the child attending lessons.
4. Materials & Resources
Materials shared during lessons (such as PDFs, vocabulary notes, or exercises) are for your personal use only and may not be distributed or reproduced for commercial purposes.
You may request personalised notes or exercises, which will be provided where appropriate.
5. Technical Issues
You are responsible for a reliable internet connection and working equipment (camera, microphone, and so on).
If technical problems on your side prevent the lesson from going ahead, the lesson is not refunded. As a one-off goodwill gesture, I may offer a reschedule at my discretion.
If technical problems on my side prevent the lesson from going ahead, it is rescheduled at no extra cost.
6. Refunds
Refunds are otherwise offered only in exceptional cases and at my discretion.
Individual lessons are not refundable once paid.
Ending a package early. If you wish to stop a package before using all of it, the lessons you have already completed are charged at the full individual rate for that package (not the discounted package rate), and the remaining, unexpired balance is refunded to you. For example, on a 20-lesson Learn package costing $880, if 2 lessons have been completed, those 2 are charged at $49.50 each ($99 total) and $781 is refunded.
In every case, the amount charged for completed lessons will never exceed what you paid for the package, and no refund is due once the value of your completed lessons (at the full individual rate) equals or exceeds the package price.
Your statutory rights. Nothing in these terms affects the consumer rights you have under UK law, or under the mandatory consumer-protection law of the country where you live. Where those rights apply and cannot be waived, they take precedence over the refund terms above.
7. Code of Conduct
Lessons should be conducted respectfully and professionally by both teacher and student.
Inappropriate or offensive behaviour may result in lessons being ended. Any refund for unused lessons in that situation is at my discretion.
8. Data Protection
Your personal details (name, email, contact information) are kept confidential and used only for lesson scheduling, communication, and invoicing.
I process this data on the basis of our agreement and my legitimate interest in delivering lessons, and I store it securely. You may ask to access, correct, or delete your data at any time.
I will not share your details with third parties without your consent, except where required by law or where necessary to process your payment.
9. Governing Law & Changes
These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales, except where the mandatory consumer-protection laws of your country of residence apply.
I may update these terms from time to time. The version in force when you book is the version that applies to that booking.
By booking lessons, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to these Terms & Conditions.
